Providing U.S. Commissioned Notaries with the Training and Support Needed to Begin Working in the Mobile Notary Field

About the Workforce Initiative

Accelerated U.S. Training Program

The United States is experiencing a growing shortage of mobile notaries. The National Notary Workforce Initiative (NNWI) was established to help address this pressing need for qualified mobile notaries across the U.S.

Across many regions, time-sensitive requests are occurring by the minute. Many industries—including automotive, real estate, legal, financial, healthcare—depend on reliable notary services.

At the same time, much of the current notary workforce is aging or retiring, while younger notaries never receive practical training on how to properly perform these assignments and are failing to carry out these responsibilities competently.

As a result, many available opportunities go unfilled or delayed, while a growing number of untrained commissioned notaries struggle to perform these assignments successfully.

The NNWI was funded to bridge this gap by supporting the development of trained, confident mobile notaries who are prepared to meet this demand in their communities —and connecting industries that require reliable services directly with them.

Resources

If you do not currently hold a Notary Public Commission, apply through your state’s Secretary of State office.

The process is typically straightforward and handled directly by your state, and most applicants are able to obtain their commission by completing a short application and meeting basic eligibility requirements.

Many individuals obtain their notary commission in a matter of weeks.

Many Secretary of State offices also provide assistance by phone and are happy to answer questions about the application process.

Notaries will require the following tools to complete assignments:

State-approved notary stamp
(easily obtained from a local stamp vendor or office supply store with proof of commission)

Dual-tray laser printer

Notary journal
(required in some states)

These supplies are commonly available through professional notary vendors or office supply retailers.

Notaries must follow state laws carefully. Improper notarization can result in rejections or even penalties. This program emphasizes proper training procedures and compliance with state regulations to get you compliant.

Mobile notary services are used across many sectors of the economy with ongoing demand 24/7. Because many of these assignments are time-sensitive, trained mobile notaries play an important role in supporting these industries.

Professional mobile notaries must maintain:

• Annual background screening
• Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance
• Notary bond (required in some states)

These items can be obtained through local or national providers such as:
